Business Spotlight: The Colonial Theatre – Phoenixville's Iconic Arts Destination

In this story

The Colonial Theatre isn’t just a historic venue — it’s the heartbeat of Bridge Street and one of Phoenixville’s most treasured cultural anchors. This week, the spotlight is even brighter as the Colonial hosts its annual Blobfest celebration, honoring the theatre’s starring role in the 1958 cult classic, The Blob.

🎬 Blobfest Week is Here!

Running July 11–13, Camp Blobfest is a three-day celebration packed with screenings, themed events, and the iconic Run-Out on Friday night (July 11). This tradition reenacts the famous scene from The Blob when moviegoers flee the theatre in terror — now a beloved community ritual.

Whether you're a horror fan or just love quirky local traditions, Blobfest is a can’t-miss summer celebration in PXV.

🎟️ About The Colonial Theatre

Founded in 1903 and lovingly restored in the late 1990s, The Colonial has evolved into a vibrant hub for independent film, live music, and community programming. With three unique theaters — including the grand 658-seat main stage — the Colonial brings in more than 70,000 patrons a year.

From arthouse classics and 35mm screenings to comedy shows and kids’ films, there’s always something happening at the Colonial.

🎭 A Living Legacy

Saved from decline by passionate locals in the '90s, the Colonial now boasts modern projection systems, beautifully restored spaces, and a loyal community of members, donors, and volunteers who keep the dream alive. As the theatre marches toward its 125th anniversary in 2028, its impact on Phoenixville’s cultural and economic revitalization cannot be overstated.
